George's Postcard Note: Breakfasting on the multi-level terrace of our hotel, the Byron. The rooms of this hotel, once old houses, are strung along a steep lane of many steps. Here I was on an upper level of the terrace, gazing out over the old Venetian town, the Evangelismo Church, and the terrace with its potted plants below. What caught my eye were the shapes of the umbrellas and the dome, their both humorous and dignified similarity. Our quite reserved (grumpy?) waiter became somewhat less dignified, pleasant if not humorous, when he saw this postcard.
