George's Postcard Note: This was our first day of biking and we stopped for lunch at the incredible pink stone structure, a three-tiered Roman aqueduct crossing the river Gard that brought water to the area for 1000 years. A great picnic lunch by the guides didn’t stop us almost-sore bikers from first climbing to the top of the structure and viewing the amazing structural and design feat up close. The arches are so elegant. I stole away form the group and found a spot up close and below the spans where I could better see how the arches were designed and structurally stacked. The people walking on the lower level show the massive scale of the stones.
